Community Involvement

RONALD McDONALD FAMILY ROOM WODONGA
This fabulous project, the building of a Ronald McDonald House, attached to the Maternity unit of Wodonga Hospital was completed in February 2010.
Davis Sanders Homes offered their expertise to design and construct this much needed community facility for Ronald McDonald House Charities in late 2008. This free standing home was constructed, at cost, by Davis Sanders Homes who, many of whom donated their time, goods and services for free or at cost. With construction commencing on the 24th August 2009, the home was completed in just 20 weeks and is now accepting families from all over the region who are caring for sick newborns
The home provides families with a home away from home whilst caring for premature and sick newborns in the maternity unit. Located just outside the maternity unit and accessed via the existing fire doors, mothers are able to feed and care for their newborns with ease.
Statistics show that on average 2 families require housing at any given time whether this is due to geographic distance from the hospital or the critical care needs of their babies.
This project was partly funded by a donation of $200,000 from Ronald McDonald House Charities and a substantial donation from Davis Sanders Homes. The remaining short fall is being sought through charitable donations and community fund raising efforts. To date, approximately $180,000 has been raised, however much more is still needed.
